Web Site and CourtWeb On-Line Rulings Information
The Court's Internet Web site is available at www.nysd.uscourts.gov
Included
among the features of the Web site are the Joint Local Rules of the Southern and
Eastern Districts of New York, which have been formatted for convenient and
efficient browser viewing. The Local Rules can also be downloaded to a computer
hard drive in WordPerfect format.
In addition, the Web site features the
individual practices and procedures of those judges who have specific procedural
requirements and will be updated regularly so that the most current version of
the individual practices and procedures will be available.
Also included
on the Court's Web site is a directory of judges with mailing addresses, room
numbers and telephone numbers, a directory of the various departments and
offices of the Court, and the Pretrial Services Confidentiality statement. From
time to time, the Web site will provide additional information, such as
employment listings.
CourtWeb On-Line Rulings Information
System
CourtWeb is an on line rulings information system. CourtWeb
was designed for the convenience of the bar and litigants to provide information
on a judge's decision virtually immediately over the Internet.
The
CourtWeb system can be searched by judge's name or case number. A brief
description of the ruling is included in each entry, in addition to information
such as the caption, case number, date and judge's name. The rulings reports may
also be printed from the user's browser for convenient
reference.
CourtWeb Watch List
CourtWeb is also testing a
watch list option. The watch list feature will automatically notify the law firm
or practitioner of any rulings entered for cases on their list. A participating
firm or practitioner would enter the case numbers for all the Southern District
cases they would like to include on their watch list. Cases can be added or
deleted from the case list at any time. Both the watch list and the rulings
report can be printed from the browser. When a ruling is posted to CourtWeb by
chambers, the description will automatically appear on the participant's watch
list. The system was designed to eliminate the need for phone calls to and from
chambers to inquire about the status of a ruling, and to provide instant
notification of a ruling.
The Court invites comments from the bar
concerning CourtWeb.
CourtWeb is not intended to substitute for
consulting the orders and decisions filed with the Clerk's office, which will
remain the official court documents and will control in the event of any
discrepancy between a report of a ruling on CourtWeb and the filed document.
